Bruce Sobczak is a transformational leader experienced in engineering, production, quality, and workforce training operations. Educated early on in trade schools, he started his career as a third generation Tool and Die Maker. With a tenacious interest in technical knowledge, a strong work ethic, and long list of successful projects and accomplishments, Mr. Sobczak quickly advanced to high level management positions within a world-class organization without the benefit of a college degree. A believer in lifelong learning, he continued his education as a working adult earning two degrees from Chapman University, a Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Leadership with honors in 2004, and a Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership in 2008. Notable positions Mr. Sobczak held include Principal Consultant SOBO Associates LLC, Director of Workforce Development for the Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing (CCAM), Director of Economic and Workforce Development for the South Orange County Community College District, Director of Manufacturing Engineering for a worldwide manufacturer, Adjunct Professor, and Private Consultant.
Mr. Sobczak is Chairman of the Commonwealth of Virginia Board of Education, Advisory Committee on Adult Education & Literacy. He is also a member of the Crater Regional Workforce Development Board (CRWDB) Board of Directors where he also services as Chairman of the Business Services Committee; member Virginia Department of Corrections, Statewide CTE Advisory Board; a member of the Board of Directors of the Virginia Career Education Foundation (VCEF); a member of the Precision Machining Program Advisory Committee at John Tyler Community College; a member of the Southside Virginia Community College machining program advisory committee; member of the Chapman University Alumni Association.

Patricia specializes in organizational and leadership development. She has a Ph.D. in Human and Organizational Systems from Fielding Graduate University, Santa Barbara, CA. Patricia has been actively researching and teaching leadership development in a variety of settings and disciplines for almost 25 years. Her dissertation analyzed how adult players of a commercial-off-the-shelf massively multiplayer online video game (MMOG) used the leadership skills gained in the game to inform their leadership development in the workplace. From this study, a new approach to leadership development, ephemeral leadership emerged.
Patricia has MBA and graduate degrees in Library Science and Human and Organizational Systems. Her academic career has included leading a satellite campus with responsibility for a $3MM budget, leading an extended education department, creating and managing academic and extended learning programs, academic advising, and development and fundraising for two academic units. She has also served on the boards of two nonprofits and has done numerous pro bono projects for local nonprofits in the Richmond metro area. Prior to her career in academia, she worked in private industry as a program manager, industrial and manufacturing engineer, and a sales/account executive. Her experience in the private sector continues to inform her scholarship by adding a practical and pragmatic perspective to her research.
Gary Grenter

For over 35 years Mr. Grenter has held executive level positions in Sales, Marketing, Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations and General Management. Before Mr. Grenter co-founded Theragen he was the President, CEO and Board Member of SpineAlign Medical Inc., an early commercial stage venture backed medical device company. Previously Mr. Grenter was the Group President for Spacelabs Healthcare, a global leader in patient monitoring, anesthesia and diagnostic cardiology and was responsible for all Operations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. During his tenure he successfully managed and closed the acquisition of Del Mar Reynolds and incorporated that business into their global network.
Prior to Spacelabs he was the President and CEO for Kyphon Inc., a Spine Company and led their very successful IPO in 2002. He also took a struggling electrical stimulation medical company, Biolectron, and managed a 400% increase in sales and profitability, and then sold it for $100M to its largest competitor, Biomet Corporation, a global leader in orthopedics. Mr. Grenter began his medical device career with Stryker Orthopedics, holding senior positions in Operations, Marketing and Product Development.
Mr. Grenter holds a B.S. in Production Management from Northern Illinois University and an M.B.A. in Management from the Rochester Institute of Technology.
